“can't wait to go back!”

I stayed at the Posada for 8 days in April while attending a Spanish school. It was completely lovely! I wish I had more time to spend on the rooftop deck, as it had lovely views, but I was too busy. Quiet, soft comfy bed, internet, safe, and Jorge at the front desk went out of his way to get whatever I needed, from airport transfers to buses to Panajachel or salsa classes. The little kitchen was great for snacks, and the location is superb: a few blocks walk from everything and yet so peaceful. I liked that they were understated and respectful, just there if you needed anything, but always ready to provide maps, tips on restaurants, grocery stores and phones, discos, banks, and all added to my excellent experience in Antigua. I am a light sleeper and did hear the neighbourhood rooster crow often, but it was such a pleasant change from traffic, horns and loud partiers, I'll take "el gallo" anytime. I cannot wait to go back. As a single woman, safety was very important to me and I felt very safe. Fernando's (attached cafe) for breakfast and coffee was a great timesaver every morning as I grabbed my cup of yogurt, granola and fruit to go! Booking was no problem. This is not a "party hostel", but rather a sweet little oasis. I was there during Semana Santa, and even with 200,000 visitors ot the city, the outside walls are so thick none of the street sounds got to my room.

Posada La Merced is my kind of hotel: safe, clean, friendly, with hot water and excellent, free coffee from (my favorite) Café Fernando, right next door. It's fairly priced, and the staff are invariably helpful. I've recommended La Merced to many colleagues over the years, and we're all happy to have found this little treasure.
